By Pawel RogalinskiCorporate Softball ManagerBSUK has increased the number of corporate softball events run this past summer, mostly in London, by almost 20% over 2008, with 50 events run in total.BSUK's corporate softball events are designed to raise awareness and spread the sport to the public. The best responses this year came from companies operating in banking, law, accounting and the financial sector, but there have also been one-off events including birthday evenings, team-building sessions and casual gatherings. Participation at these events has ranged from 18 to over 100 people.
Top Clients, Venues and PrizesSome of the most recognizable clients this summer included Thomson Reuters, the Ministry of Defence, Sport England, HSBC Private Banking, Deutsche Bank, L'Oreal, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. The total number of participants taking part in this year's corporate softball events reached over 1650. Most of the events took place in Regents Park and Hyde Park, with occasional events in Greenwich, Battersea Park and on Hampstead Heath. But there were also events run outside London – in Manchester and in Ware, Hertfordshire. The most prestigious event of the summer took place inside the home of the Honourable Artillery Company, the oldest regiment in the British army. In an event held for Billington Cartmell, the prize for winning the tournament was astonishing – a trip for the winning team to the Dominican Republic to watch baseball live. Credit crunch? What credit crunch...?The level of softball played at corporate events is obviously basic, but even so there has been some excellent play. Softball fits perfectly as far as corporate objectives of providing fun and team-building opportunities in a social setting are concerned, and it's one of the few activities that companies can offer equally to their male and female members of staff.Corporate softball events are always great fun, highly sociable and, most importantly, a great way to introduce softball to beginners.
SatisfactionSurveys conducted with corporate softball clients have again revealed high levels of satisfaction this year, with every single client stating they would recommend the service to other companies or organisations. This was due in large part to the efforts of a strong fleet of facilitators put together by BSUK, including Pawel Rogalinski, Mike Jennings, Ian Waller, Paul Phillips, Ronnie Van Loo and Lance Nelson.Satisfaction with equipment provided was 93%, satisfaction with umpires/facilitators was 87%, satisfaction with communication with BSUK was 92% and satisfaction with the overall experience was 92%.BSUK has also maintained a 35% customer retention rate, meaning that every third customer from 2007 and 2008 has asked BSUK to organise another event this year.
